Nevada Nursing License

The Nevada State Board of Nursing

nevadaThe Nevada State Board of Nursing is the institution designed to protect and to safeguard the health, the welfare as well as the safety of the people of Nevada, through effective nursing regulation. It is the duty of the Board of Nursing to provide the Nevada nursing license to professionals who meet all the eligibility requirements, to renew their licenses on a regular basis as well as to sanction the nursing professionals who do not respect the norms within the Nurse Practice Act. In addition to this, the Nevada State Board of Nursing is entirely funded from the license fees that are collected from licensees, not from funds that come from the State General Fund.

How To Become A LPN In Nevada

If you have decided to become a licensed practical nurse in the state of Nevada, then it is important to graduate from high school and get either your high school diploma or your GED. Also, it is highly recommended to have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0, in case you wish to enroll in a Bachelor’s Degree program later on. That being said, the first thing you need to do upon graduation is to do your research and find all the accredited LPN training programs. These professional programs will give you both the theoretical and the practical education you need in order to pass the licensure examination, or the NCLEX-PN exam, which will represent the final barrier between you as a practical nurse and your licensure. The NCLEX examination consists of 300 multiple choice questions – it is a computerized test that will thoroughly test all your medical and surgical skills and comprehension. Becoming a LPN takes a lot less time than becoming a registered nurse or a nurse practitioner, although the latter is considerably more rewarding from a financial standpoint. Nonetheless, both RNs and LPNs are very appreciated in Nevada these days.

If you are already a licensed practical nurse in another state and you would like to apply for a licensure in the state of Nevada as well, then you can easily do that by endorsement – in addition to the background check results and the educational requirements you must meet, you also have to submit proof of licensure in another state, showing that your practical nurse license is in good standing.

In a nutshell, the first thing you need to do after finishing high school is to make sure that you have all the pre-requisite courses that are required for admission to an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in the Science of Nursing – while the first one typically takes two to three years to complete, the latter usually takes four academic years, although you may be eligible for an accelerated BSN program if you meet the requirements. Having said that, it is important to focus only on approved, accredited and reputable registered nurse programs in Nevada, and in addition to meeting the educational requirements for admission, you must also submit yourself to a complete criminal background check and you must also send your fingerprint cards to the Board.

Just like licensed practical nurses, registered nurses (not just in Nevada, but throughout all the United States) are required to sit for the NCLEX examination. If you are an out of state registered nurse or an international registered nurse and you have already passed the NCLEX examination or the state pool exam in another jurisdiction, then the good news is that you may be eligible for what is referred to as a “reciprocal license”. Having said that, you must have the license verification proof sent from the state where you initially received your license, to the Nevada Board of Nursing, which will carefully process and review it in order to make sure that it is in good standing. If you are an internationally trained nurse, then you will have to go through what is known as the CGFNS evaluation prior to receiving the authorization to sit for the NCLEX examination. The Nevada State Board of Nursing also require internationally educated registered nurses to take the TOEFL examination for non-native English speakers.
