The good news is that nowadays, those who want to pursue a nursing career can easily do so within as little as one year. Having said that, after getting a diploma or a certificate in nursing, the future LPNs will have to write an application form for licensure, will need to provide proof of certification of completion provided by the approved nursing program the applicant has just graduated from, then must pass the NCLEX-PN licensure examination and finally submit to a criminal background check.

In addition to this, some applicants may also be eligible for licensure by endorsement in the state of Illinois, provided that they already have a valid license in another US state and that they have submitted a written application to the Illinois Board of Nursing, along with the background check mentioned above. Foreign students must complete all these eligibility requirements as well, in addition to passing the TOEFL exam, or the Test for English as a Foreign Language. Upon receiving their licensure, the licensed practical nurses in the state of Illinois must renew their license every 24 months – in order for that to happen, the holder must have at least 20 hours of continued education for each renewal application.
